China moved on to the quarter-finals of FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015 after a second round victory over Cameroon in Edmonton Saturday.

China joins Germany in the quarter-finals. Germany advanced thanks to a 4-1 victory over Sweden in Ottawa in the day’s first match.

Wang Shanshan scored the game’s only goal in the 12th minute after a composed set up from Li Dongna.

Cameroon were only the second African nation to advance past the first round of the Women’s World Cup – Nigeria did it in 1999.

The match marked China’s sixth venture into the Women’s World Cup second-round.

China will now play the winner of Monday’s match between USA and Columbia in the quarter finals. That match is set for Friday, June 26 in Ottawa.
