FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015 – Semi-Finals

Japan vs England 2-1

Commonwealth Stadium, Edmonton – Wednesday, July 1

Japan booked their place in the Women’s World Cup 2015 final after a 2-1 victory over England, courtesy an unlucky and cruel injury time own goal by England’s Laura Bassett.

Japan went ahead on an Aya Miyama penalty shot on the 33rd minute. Fara Williams responded for the English in the 40th minute, also via the spot.

But it was Bassett’s unfortunate touch, late in the match, that proved the difference.

Japan will face USA in the World Cup’s final in Vancouver Sunday. USA progressed to the final match after a 2-0 win over Germany in Tuesday’s semi final in Montreal.

England will face Germany in the third-place final in Edmonton Saturday.
