Dominique Malonga scored twice and Julian Büscher scored a free kick as Cavalry FC beat York9 FC 3-1 in Canadian Premier League action at Spruce Meadows Wednesday night. Kyle Porter scored York9 FC’s lone goal.

The result hoists the Cavs atop the CPL fall season table, two points ahead of Hamilton’s Forge FC.

“We were magnificent tonight, weren’t we?” said Cavs head coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr. “It should’ve about 15-1. But we’ll take the three points.”

Brace scoring French born Congolese striker Dominique Malonga felt he had a third incorrectly waved off in the second half.

“They took one away from me,” said Malonga. “What can I do? I tried my best to help my team. I’m happy for the team.

“We’re a good team, and we got the result. We just showed the mentality we have. Tommy, the boss, just every day, he’s there to tell us we have to go again and again, that we can’t relax.”

Cavalry FC next play Forge in a top of the table clash in Hamilton Sunday afternoon, before returning to Calgary three days later to face Pacific FC midweek.
