Seeking photographers and writers to help cover the Canadian Premier League in 2020

Total Soccer News (formerly Total Soccer Project) is looking for photographers and/or writers to help us expand our Canadian Premier League coverage for the 2020 season.

We’re very proud of our in-depth coverage of Cavalry FC and other CPL content in 2019 , whether with our top-quality image galleries or in-depth stories. But it’s time to grow.

Contact Total Soccer News about producing Canadian Premier League content in 2020

We’re looking for content producers based in and around the other CPL cities – Victoria (Pacific FC), Edmonton (FC Edmonton), Winnipeg (Valour FC), Hamilton (Forge FC), York Region (York9 FC) HFX Wanderers (Halifax).

Content can be self-driven and can include (click for examples):

Total Soccer News is a labour of love. Currently any income made from Google Ads and reader donations goes to maintaining our website. So, there will be no financial compensation connected to the work.

The ideal candidate is a passionate soccer fan who enjoys capturing sports images and/or writing footy stories, has some relevant experience and craves a deeper connection to the CPL. This work may be perfect for photography and journalism students looking to build online portfolios over the spring and summer months.

There’s no minimum amount of content producers are required to submit. Nor are they required to produce both photography and stories – one of the two is great. It’s unlikely every match will be covered – fit them in where you can. Again, this is a labour of love. It’s about contributing to the story of soccer in Canada and enjoying ourselves along the way.

We will of course try and assist any photographers and writers in attaining media credentials, should they require them.

Prospective photographers should have previous sports photography experience, a decent sports lens (examples: 70-200mm f2.8, 300mm f2.8 or f4, 70-300 f4-5.6) and the ability to send photos on match days from the venue (via DropBox or similar file sharing site). Previous experience can include professional, junior or amateur sports. The philosophy being, if you can capture great images of an Under-10 boys or girls soccer game, you can probably capture great images at a pro game.

Both prospective photographers and writers will be asked to supply previous examples of work. As previously mentioned there’s no pay connected to the work, however we do require a high level of professionalism in the content we produce and especially in the manner with which we conduct ourselves.

So, if you’re interested in helping tell the CPL’s story in 2020, please send an email to stuartgradon@totalsoccernews.com. And feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Look forward to hearing from you,

Stuart Gradon – Owner, Total Soccer News
