Cavalry FC beat FC Edmonton 2-1 in its first Canadian Premier League home game at ATCO Field in nearly two years Tuesday.

Easton Ongaro scored the opening goal for the Eddies in the 19th minute. But Cavalry FC English striker Joe Mason equalized in the 64th minute before Dutch defender Daan Klomp grabbed the eventual winner in the 71st minute.

“The fans the supporters, I tell you, I got goosebumps before the game,” said Tommy Wheeldon Jr. after the game. “And it was just special. We talked to the guys before the game, go out and give them a show. Everyone’s been struggling through this COVID for different reasons. Put on a show for them.”

“First half I thought we were average. Second half we showed our character and our grit.”

The result lifts Cavalry FC to third place, one point behind first place Valour FC.
